Simple Exercises Better Than Getting a Liposuction
Liposuction surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures, especially among women. It involves removing fat from specific areas of the body and can be a good choice for people who have small amounts of stubborn fat or congenital problems, but shouldn’t be anyone’s first choice.
According to PlasticSurgeryGuide.com, liposuction was the 3rd most popoular procedure in 2010. Also known as lipoplasty, this procedure made it in the top five overall procedure when he American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery collected nationwide procedural statistics in the US from 1997.
Disadvantages of Liposuction Surgery
Liposuction doesn’t substitute for good diet and exercise, since the fat cells can grow back after the procedure. Like any surgical procedure, it also comes with the risk of serious complications, including more pain and life-threatening infections. Before you begin wondering: “How much does liposuction cost?” consider using targeted exercise to reduce the appearance of fat and improve your overall health.
How Much Does Liposuction Cost?
This procedure varies in cost depending on the method the surgeon uses and the amount of fat to be removed. The average cost of liposuction in New York is close to $3,000. Since almost no health insurance companies cover cosmetic procedures, you would have to pay for this surgery out of pocket.
Biceps Curl
Many people seek liposuction for sagging upper arms, but you can avoid an expensive, painful procedure with the correct exercises. Biceps curls develop the muscles in your upper arms, filling out loose skin and reducing sagginess. Start by holding the weights at thigh level, with inner arms facing forward and elbows straight. Bend one arm, raising the weight to shoulder height, then slowly lower it to the starting position. Repeat with the other side for toned arms without surgery.
Triangle Pushup
This exercise works the back of the arm, where saggy tissue frequently appears. The triangle pushup requires no equipment and can be done in relatively small spaces. Lie flat on your stomach and position your hands directly under your chest with thumbs and forefingers touching and fingers spread. Place your knees on the floor or straight your whole body into a plank position. Keep your back flat and your stomach tight, bend your elbows and push up as far as you can. Lower your body almost to the floor, then press upward again.
Ball Crunch
Like an ordinary situp or crunch, this exercise helps build abdominal muscle, tightening up the skin. It’s better than liposuction because it’s easy to do and non-invasive. It also builds strength, gives you better balance and improves posture, which liposuction won’t do. To perform this exercise, lie back against a large exercise ball with your feet on the floor and your lower back supported. Cross your arms over your chest. Curl toward your knees, keeping the ball stable underneath you.
Bicycle
Daily activities and conventional abdominal exercises don’t always target the lower abdomen, leaving it soft and saggy even when the rest of the body is firm. Before you look into liposuction, consider building your lower abdominal muscles using the bicycle technique. Lie face up on an exercise mat with your hands behind your head. Bring one knee up, moving the opposite elbow down to touch it. You should feel a diagonal pull across your stomach. Repeat the exercise on the opposite side using a pedaling motion to build muscle on your sides and in the lower abdomen.
Squats
This exercise targets the outer thighs and buttocks, two common liposuction sites for women. Squats can be done without equipment or with a pair of dumbbells. Start with your feet hip to shoulder-width apart and any weights held at your sides. Bend your knees and lower your body until your legs are at a ninety-degree angle. Don’t bend your back. Slowly stand back up without locking the knees, then repeat.
